Shenandoah national park predators8/23/2023 ![]() Where a state, local, tribal, or territorial government where the park is located imposes more protective mask-wearing requirements than those indicated by the COVID-19 Community Level, individuals must follow those more protective requirements within the park. Regardless of the COVID-19 Community Level, individuals may wear masks if they choose to do so.Masks not designed to be protective, masks with ventilation valves, and face shields do not meet the requirement. Masks must cover the nose and mouth and fit snugly around the nose and chin with no large gaps around the sides of the face.The requirement, if any, will apply to all facilities within the park. When the COVID-19 Community Level is HIGH in one or more, but not all, of the counties where the park is located based on data provided by the CDC, the superintendent will determine whether individuals are required to wear masks.When the COVID-19 Community Level is HIGH in the county or all the counties where the park is located based on data provided by the CDC, all individuals over the age of two must wear masks, regardless of vaccination status, in all common areas and shared workspaces in buildings owned, leased, or otherwise controlled by the National Park Service, including, but not limited to, park visitor centers, administrative offices, lodges, gift shops and restaurants.When the COVID-19 Community Level is LOW or MEDIUM in the county or all the counties where the park is located based on data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), individuals are not required to wear masks.Camping in these areas when trash collection, toilet facilities and dish-washing facilities are not available results in unreasonable impacts upon the areas. Specific dates are established each year and are available from the Superintendent’s Office:Ĭampground closures are necessary because of potential damage to water lines from freezing and periodic road closures due to ice and snow. The following campgrounds may be partially or completely closed in the winter.(a) Consistent with applicable legislation and Federal administrative policies, and based upon a determination that such action is necessary for the maintenance of public health and safety, protection of environmental or scenic values, protection of natural or cultural resources, aid to scientific research, implementation of management responsibilities, equitable allocation and use of facilities, or the avoidance of conflict among visitor use activities, the superintendent may: (1) Establish, for all or a portion of a park area, a reasonable schedule of visiting hours, impose public use limits, or close all or a portion of a park area to all public use or to a specific use or activity. 36 CFR §1.5 – VISITING HOURS, PUBLIC USE LIMITS, CLOSURES, AND AREA DESIGNATIONS FOR SPECIFIC USE OR ACTIVITIES The following visiting hours and public use limits are established for all or for the listed portions of the park, and the following closures are established for all or a portion of the park to all public use or to a certain use or activity. ![]() ![]() There are AT hikers passing through along the road and of course, deer and other animals.I. ![]() Bonus is the fact you get to walk on the Appalachian Trail for a portion.Īs for the drive, when you get to The Meadows area, there is an opportunity for gas, indoor restrooms, snacks and beverages, picnic area. It's just right for some adventure, without being too long or strenuous. There are so many rock scrambles - just awesome - climbing and reaching small summits to take in the views. Our favorite hike was Bearfence Trail - it was amazing! I think it will be one of our most memorable hikes ever. Our main goal was to do a couple hikes, but if that's not your thing or you're unable to hike, the drive alone is very pretty with lots of overlooks along the way. We entered from the south entrance (Rockfish Gap) and drove about half the Skyline Drive through the park before exiting at Luray.
